Directions to Sundari's

From the East Bay, Take 24 East. Go through the Caldecott Tunnel past Orinda. Take the Acalanes Rd./Mt. Diablo Blvd. exit keeping on the right fork (not the Upper Happy Valley left fork). Continue straight on Mt. Diablo Blvd. past Lafayette Reservoir on the right, until a huge construction fence on the left, across the street from 360 Gourmet Burritos and Trader Joe’s. Turn left onto Dolores. Go one short block under the freeway. Then veer left onto Via Roble. Continue all the way up the hill, straight through the stop sign (almost a mile), until Via Roble dead ends at Quail Ridge Road. Turn left onto Quail Ridge. This is a good place to park.

The house is down the first very steep, downhill driveway to the right, next to three mailboxes, after turning left onto Quail Ridge. There are three houses on this private drive. Two are on the right and my house is about half-way down the hill on the left.

It is good to park at the top, or if the hill is too hard for you, try the VERY limited amount of parking in front of the house down the hill keeping to the far left by the cement curvature, going down the driveway VERY SLOWLY so as not to scrape on the right side of the drive for low slung cars. You can call the house when you arrive and I will shuttle you down (and up) if necessary.

From Contra Costa County:
Take 24 West to the second Lafayette exit, Central Lafayette (Moraga). Exit, turning left at the light, which is Deer Hill Rd. Continue past the Lafayette Bart station on your left. Continue on Deer Hill Rd., past the crosses on the hill to your right, until it dead ends at Happy Valley Rd. Turn left on Happy Valley for one block and then right onto Mt. Diablo Blvd. Go one block and make a right turn onto Dolores at the construction. Follow the directions above from the East Bay, 4th sentence down.

Note
Choices From Marin, at rush hour, to avoid Berkeley and the tunnel.
1. Take 580 after crossing the San Rafael/Richmond bridge. Continue to Albany exit, I think it is called Buchanan St. Make a left onto Marin Ave and continue on it up, up, up to Grizzley Peak Blvd. Turn right -these are some of the best views in the Bay area -on Grizzley Peak to Fish Ranch Rd. Turn left passing over the tunnel and then left down onto Highway 24.

2. Cross the bridge, take the first exit to right and curve around onto Richmond Parkway. Take it maybe 10 miles to Highway 80. You enter the freeway on the left, even though you’ll be going about three exits towards SF (Berkeley). Get off at San Pablo Dam Rd. Make a left onto it after exiting. This allows one to avoid all dense traffic and the Caldecott tunnel. Pass the nice SUPER cheap gas stations on left in El Sobrante. Continue on San Pablo Dam Rd past the reservoir right into Orinda where it hits Highway 24. The name changes, but just go straight to the freeway. Get on 24 toward Walnut Creek, then exit at Acalanes /Mt. Diablo Blvd. and follow directions above.

3. It is also possible when one gets to 80 to go the other direction on 80, towards Sacramento, for two or 3 exits, to Highway 4, Highway 4 to 680 to 24, get off at Central Lafayette exit. [However I find the #2. route above very soothing and beautiful even at rush hour.]

4. During non-rush or low traffic hours, I’d use a different route, taking the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, continuing on 80 through Berkeley taking the second lane from the left on the crossover to 580 then quickly the right two lanes to 24. Go through the Caldecott tunnel and then exit at Acalanes, Mt. Diablo Blvd following the East Bay directions above. If I get to almost the tunnel and there is traffic, I get off at Claremont and take Claremont straight past the Claremont Hotel, over the top of the hill and then get back onto 24 after the tunnel.

Directions: From San Francisco, take the Bay Bridge. Stay in the middle lanes following 580 East toward Hayward and then immediately use the right lanes to transition onto 24 East towards Walnut Creek. Continue with East Bay directions

From San Jose/Santa Cruz, Take CA-17 N to I-880 N. Take Exit 12A onto Mission Blvd toward
Sacramento/I-680. Merge onto I-680 N to Sacramento. Take exit 45B onto CA-24 W toward Lafayette/Oakland. Take exit 13 toward Central Lafayette/Moraga. Continue with directions below from Contra Costa County.

The Lafayette Bart Station is one block from the bottom of my hill. We could likely shuttle you over from Bart.
